TLDR A 7-year-old boy's fungal infection was treated successfully, but some hair loss was permanent.
This case report discusses a 7-year-old boy diagnosed with Tinea favosa, a rare chronic fungal infection caused primarily by Trichophyton schoenleinii. The condition is characterized by yellowish crusts and can lead to permanent hair loss if untreated. Diagnosis involved physical examination, microscopic analysis, and culture on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar. Treatment with oral griseofulvin and ketoconazole cream over 8-12 weeks resolved the infection, but some areas of fibrosis resulted in permanent alopecia.
