TLDR Topical dapsone may effectively treat lichen planopilaris in the beard, especially for those who can't tolerate standard treatments.
This study presents the case of a 44-year-old man with lichen planopilaris (LPP) involving the beard, who experienced significant improvement with topical 7.5% dapsone after other treatments failed due to adverse effects or lack of response. The patient achieved rapid disease activity reduction within one month and maintained remission for two years without side effects. The findings suggest that topical dapsone could be an effective non-systemic treatment alternative for LPP, particularly for patients intolerant to standard therapies, and indicate a potential role of neutrophilic inflammation in the disease's pathogenesis.
