TLDR Combining topical dutasteride with microneedling is more effective for hair growth than microneedling alone.
The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of topical dutasteride (DST) with microneedling (MN) in treating male androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 30 male patients. Group 1, which received MN with topical DST, showed significant improvements in hair caliber, terminal/vellus hair ratio, and patient satisfaction compared to Group 2, which received MN alone. Specifically, Group 1 had a 12% increase in hair density and a 98% increase in hair shaft diameter, while Group 2 showed no significant changes. Additionally, 86.67% of patients in Group 1 reported slowed hair loss, and 66.67% noted moderate hair growth. Side effects were minimal, with itching reported only in Group 1. The study concluded that combining topical dutasteride with microneedling was more effective than microneedling alone, but further research is needed to confirm its efficacy.
