TLDR Topical treatments and skin care improve transplant-related atopic dermatitis in children.
This study examines five children and adolescents who developed new-onset atopic dermatitis following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. All patients experienced acute graft-versus-host disease of the skin but did not meet the criteria for chronic graft-versus-host disease. The study found that topical therapy and skin care, guided by atopic dermatitis guidelines, effectively improved skin conditions and reduced atopic dermatitis severity scores. Additionally, type 2 inflammatory markers showed improvement. The findings suggest that such topical treatments may be beneficial for managing transplant-related atopic dermatitis and could potentially reduce the need for excessive immunosuppressive therapy when the condition aligns with atopic dermatitis diagnostic criteria.
