TLDR Triamcinolone hexacetonide is effective but has side effects, while PRP and minoxidil are safer alternatives for treating alopecia areata.
This integrative review evaluates the efficacy and safety of triamcinolone hexacetonide for treating alopecia areata, comparing it with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and minoxidil. The review analyzed 243 articles from PubMed Central, highlighting that triamcinolone hexacetonide remains a first-line treatment despite its limited availability in Brazil. PRP, especially when combined with topical minoxidil, is presented as an effective alternative. While triamcinolone is effective for mild to moderate alopecia areata, it has significant side effects with prolonged use. Emerging therapies like PRP and minoxidil offer promising alternatives with fewer risks and comparable results.
