Trichoscopic Features of Androgenetic Alopecia According to the Basic and Specific (BASP) Classification: A Retrospective Observational Study

    This study on androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in a Korean population of 157 participants (129 males, 28 females) used the BASP classification to examine trichoscopic features. It found that trichoscopic signs like vellus hair and brown peripilar sign were more common in AGA patients, who also had lower total hair counts and more single-hair follicular units. As AGA progressed, these signs increased, and hair counts decreased. Trichoscopy was validated as a sensitive tool for early detection of AGA, with vellus hairs and yellow dots as early indicators. The study noted sex differences, with females showing earlier and more diffuse changes, highlighting the need for sex-specific evaluations. Despite its retrospective and single-center limitations, the study emphasizes trichoscopy's utility in assessing AGA severity.
