TLDR Trichoscopy is useful for diagnosing and assessing androgenetic alopecia severity.
This study investigated the correlation between trichoscopic findings and disease severity in androgenetic alopecia (AGA) among 150 individuals aged 18 to 70. Conducted at PNS Shifa Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, the study used a handheld dermatoscope to examine hair follicle changes. In males, the Hamilton-Norwood scale was used, with most cases falling into Grade III, while females were assessed using Ludwig stages, with Stage I being most prevalent. The study found a positive correlation between trichoscopic findings and disease severity in both male and female AGA, except for brown and white peripilar signs in males. The research concluded that trichoscopy is a practical tool for early diagnosis and assessing the severity of AGA, potentially reducing the need for scalp biopsies.
