TLDR Trichoscopy effectively diagnoses and monitors treatment in children with tinea capitis.
This study involving 78 pediatric patients demonstrates that trichoscopy is a highly sensitive and noninvasive tool for diagnosing and monitoring tinea capitis (TC). Trichoscopic features such as comma hairs, corkscrew hairs, and black dots showed significant changes during treatment, with variations observed between TC subtypes. By the end of the 8-week treatment, all patients achieved a mycological cure, although complete confirmation via culture was not possible. The study suggests that trichoscopy can effectively guide antifungal treatment and provide visual confirmation of recovery, recommending its incorporation into clinical practice to enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient care in pediatric TC.
