Unexpected Hair Regrowth Following Oral Bicalutamide Exposure in a Male Patient With Androgenetic Alopecia and a Suboptimal Response to Conventional Therapies: A Case Report

This case report describes a 45-year-old male with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) who experienced hair regrowth after using oral bicalutamide, despite previous inadequate responses to conventional therapies like minoxidil and finasteride. However, the treatment led to adverse effects, including gynecomastia, mastodynia, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and mild liver enzyme elevations, prompting discontinuation of the drug. While the case highlights a potential link between androgen receptor blockade and hair regrowth, it also underscores significant side effects, suggesting that oral bicalutamide should not be recommended for male AGA without further controlled studies to assess its safety and efficacy.
