TLDR PCOS requires personalized treatment to manage symptoms and improve fertility and quality of life.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects about 10% of women globally and is a leading cause of infertility due to ovulatory dysfunction. Diagnosis is based on the Rotterdam criteria, and management includes lifestyle modifications and pharmacological treatments. Weight management and medications like clomiphene citrate, letrozole, and metformin are used to address symptoms and improve fertility. Letrozole is preferred for its minimal side effects, while metformin helps with insulin resistance. For severe cases, bariatric surgery and assisted reproductive technologies may be considered. Acne, another symptom of PCOS, is managed through hormonal therapies and lifestyle changes. A personalized, holistic approach is essential for effective management and improved quality of life.
