TLDR Upcycled pineapple biopolymer is effective and eco-friendly for skincare, suncare, and haircare.
The study explores the efficacy of an upcycled pineapple biopolymer, specifically a Pineapple Leaf Fibre Crosspolymer (PALF), in skincare, suncare, and haircare applications. The PALF is developed through a proprietary process involving alkali treatment, acidic hydrolysis, and yeast fermentation of discarded pineapple leaf fibers. In vitro and ex vivo experiments show that PALF reduces oxidative stress, inflammation, and the negative effects of pollution and UV exposure, while also exhibiting pigment-dispersing properties. In vivo studies further demonstrate that PALF reduces dermal carbon deposition, improves foundation transfer resistance, enhances skin hydration and barrier function, and provides perceived hair benefits. Overall, PALF acts as an eco-friendly ingredient that forms a protective barrier on the skin, offering a comprehensive range of benefits in cosmetic formulations while promoting environmental sustainability.
