TLDR Human urine has been used in Spain for treating various skin conditions and ailments, influenced by local traditions.
The study explored the use of human urine as a therapeutic resource in Spain, focusing on its role in folk medicine and associated symbolisms. Researchers compiled 204 urine-based remedies, with 63% aimed at treating diseases or skin conditions like eczema, chloasma, and alopecia, as well as burns, chilblains, wounds, and venomous bites. The remedies were linked to naturalist symbolism rooted in local traditions and empirical knowledge. The use of urine in Spain was characterized by two practices: a rural, utilitarian approach and an urban, naturopathic method.
