TLDR A reliable, cost-effective method was developed for accurately measuring finasteride in medicines.
A UV–Visible spectrophotometric method was developed and validated for estimating finasteride in bulk and pharmaceutical forms, useful for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia and androgenic alopecia. The method, using methanol and measuring absorbance at ~210 nm, showed excellent linearity (2–10 µg/mL, r² ≥ 0.999) and adhered to Beer–Lambert’s law. Validation followed ICH guidelines, confirming accuracy (98–102% recovery), precision (low %RSD <2%), and sensitivity with acceptable LOD and LOQ. This method is reliable, cost-effective, and suitable for routine quality control of finasteride formulations.
