TLDR Scalp coverage scoring accurately measures hair loss and treatment effectiveness.
This study validated the use of scalp coverage scoring (SCS) and global photographs (GPs) for evaluating hair loss in male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). The SCS method was found to be reliable and accurate in detecting treatment efficacy, with a 5% improvement in scalp hair coverage in the active group compared to the placebo group. The study suggests that SCS can be a useful tool for monitoring changes in hair loss over time and for evaluating the efficacy of drug treatments. The authors caution against using global scalp viewing as a technique for evaluating hair loss.

A user started taking 0.625mg oral minoxidil daily for hair loss, increased the dose to 1.25mg, and experienced a significant shed, losing 70% of scalp density. They cannot tolerate finasteride due to side effects but are hopeful for hair regrowth despite the shedding.

The user shared their experience with various hair loss treatments, including Kirkland Minoxidil Foam, Happy Head Topical Fin and Min, Locklab, Ro Mane Spray, and plans to try Happy Head 10 in 1 serum. They found Happy Head Fin and Min effective for crown regrowth but are considering switching to Ro Mane or the new Happy Head serum for less greasiness and staining.
