Vascular Endothelial Cells as Signaling Niches for Epithelial Stem Cells in the Skin

    This review explores the role of vascular endothelial cells (VECs) as potential signaling niches for epithelial stem cells in the skin, a concept well-established in non-skin tissues. While various cell types are known to interact with epithelial stem cells in the skin, recent studies suggest that VECs may also play a significant role. Skin epithelial stem cells can influence local vasculature, and changes in VEC signaling can affect hair follicle stem cell proliferation and tissue homeostasis. However, the specific signals and contexts in which VECs impact skin stem cells are not well understood. The review emphasizes the need for further research into VEC–stem cell interactions, which could be important for understanding skin responses to environmental and pathological stresses, such as UV irradiation, psoriasis, and cancer.
