The Role of Vasoactive Peptides in Skin Homeostasis: Focus on Adiponectin and the Kallikrein-Kinin System

This article reviewed the roles of adiponectin and bradykinin, two vasoactive peptides, in skin homeostasis. Adiponectin, primarily found in subcutaneous adipose tissue, was shown to affect various skin cells and may be involved in conditions like psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and scleroderma. Bradykinin, part of the kallikrein-kinin system, is expressed in the skin and is used in treating hereditary angioedema. Its role in wound healing, psoriasis, and melanoma was also discussed. The review called for more studies to explore adiponectin supplementation and pharmacological targeting of the kallikrein-kinin system for therapeutic purposes.
