TLDR VEGF can promote hair growth by elongating hair follicles.
The study investigated the effect of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) on human hair growth in vitro. It was found that dermal papilla cells produced various isoforms of VEGF, including those with 121, 165, 189, and 206 amino acids. The application of VEGF165 and VEGF121 at specific concentrations stimulated hair follicle elongation in vitro, although they did not affect the proliferation of dermal papilla cells. The findings suggested that VEGF could promote hair growth through mechanisms other than the proliferation of dermal papilla cells.
