TLDR Behavioral and hypnotherapy improved self-esteem but didn't regrow hair in Alopecia areata.
This single-case study explores the psychosomatic causes and treatment approaches for Alopecia areata (AA), a form of hair loss. A patient with AA underwent 15 sessions each of behavioral and hypnotherapy after unsuccessful dermatological treatments. Psychological assessments were conducted before treatment. The therapy improved the patient's self-esteem, body image, and coping with the condition, but did not result in hair regrowth. The study suggests that while stress can trigger AA, psychosomatic approaches may not effectively disrupt this mechanism. The authors propose a combined behavioral and hypnotherapy approach for AA treatment, recommending further studies with larger groups to validate these findings.
