TLDR Vitamin B12 deficiency is linked to hair loss and skin pigmentation changes.
This case-control study investigated the association between vitamin B12 deficiency and dermatological symptoms, specifically diffuse hair fall and muco-cutaneous pigmentation, in 240 patients compared to 240 controls. The study found that 198 of the cases had low serum vitamin B12 levels compared to 87 in the control group. Additionally, 42% of the cases presented with hair fall, 33% with hyperpigmentation, and 25% with both symptoms. The study concluded that there is a significant association between vitamin B12 deficiency and these dermatological symptoms, suggesting that they can serve as clinical markers for dermatologists.
