This case-control study conducted among 80 women in Mosul City investigates the role of vitamin D deficiency in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The study found that 97.5% of women with PCOS had low vitamin D levels, significantly higher than the 65% in the control group without PCOS. Additionally, women with PCOS exhibited higher serum prolactin and testosterone levels. The study highlights a relationship between vitamin D deficiency and the severity of PCOS symptoms, such as irregular menstrual cycles, hirsutism, and acanthosis, suggesting that vitamin D deficiency may exacerbate these symptoms.
