TLDR Vitamin D may help with certain types of hair loss in women.
This study analyzed 401 female patients with non-scarring alopecia to explore the relationship between vitamin D levels and hair loss severity. It found no significant differences in vitamin D levels across female pattern hair loss (FPHL), alopecia areata (AA), and telogen effluvium (TE). However, an inverse correlation between vitamin D levels and disease severity was noted in FPHL and patchy AA, suggesting vitamin D may play a modulating role in these conditions. No significant association was found in TE. The findings suggest that routine vitamin D screening and supplementation could be beneficial for women with non-scarring alopecia, although further research is needed to confirm causality.
