TLDR FUE technique offers higher satisfaction and broader use for women needing hair transplants.
This retrospective study assessed the outcomes of follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) in 62 women with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) and hairline restoration needs. The mean age of participants was 37 years, with 45.2% undergoing FUT and 54.8% undergoing FUE. The median graft count was 1,700, and no major complications were reported. Overall, 67.7% of patients reported high satisfaction, which was associated with better donor density, thicker/wavier hair, and higher graft numbers. FUE was found to offer broader indications and higher satisfaction rates. Hairline restoration and curly/wavy hair were significant predictors of satisfaction. Both techniques were deemed safe and effective, emphasizing the importance of careful patient selection and realistic expectations for optimal outcomes.
