TLDR Yoga helps manage PCOS symptoms and improves overall health.
This randomized controlled trial examined the effects of a 12-week yoga intervention on 75 women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), with 38 in the yoga group and 37 in the non-yoga group. The yoga group showed significant improvements in oxidative stress markers, mitochondrial DNA copy number, and inflammatory parameters compared to the non-yoga group. Additionally, yoga led to reductions in BMI, hormonal imbalances, and depression severity, as well as enhancements in mitochondrial function. These findings suggest that yoga may serve as a beneficial adjunct therapy for managing PCOS by improving metabolic, reproductive, and mental health outcomes. However, the study is limited by its small sample size and short intervention duration. Future research will aim to extend the intervention duration and explore broader molecular effects.
