TLDR Minoxidil is the most recommended treatment for hair loss on YouTube Shorts.
The study analyzed 150 YouTube Shorts videos on hair loss and alopecia treatments, with 80 meeting the inclusion criteria. Most videos were created by patients/bloggers (36.3%), while dermatologists and trichologists had the highest engagement scores. The majority of videos (56.25%) recommended treatments that could be done independently, such as OTC topical medications and cosmetics. Thirty videos suggested treatments requiring medical assistance, like prescription medications and hair transplants, while 11 videos recommended home remedies. Minoxidil was the most recommended treatment (26.3%). The study highlights the potential for dermatologists to use YouTube Shorts to share evidence-based information and counter misinformation.
