research MEDICINAL PLANTS USED IN THE MANAGEMENT OF POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME (PCOD)
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women of child-bearing age, characterized by hormonal imbalance, irregular ovulation, and the presence of ovarian cysts, leading to symptoms like irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, obesity, acne, and excessive hair growth. Traditional management involves hormonal therapy and lifestyle changes, but these may not address underlying metabolic issues. This review highlights the potential of medicinal plants as alternative therapies for PCOS, noting that herbs such as Withania somnifera, Trigonella foenum-graecum, and others may improve endocrine function, insulin sensitivity, and ovarian activity, offering a promising approach to enhancing reproductive and metabolic health in women with PCOS.
