research Metformin and Amoxicillin/Clavulanate as Co-Administration for the Treatment of Hyperglycemia in Female Rats Caused by Alloxan

June 2025 in “Mağallaẗ ʻulūm al-rāfidayn”
The study examined the effects of co-administering metformin and amoxicillin/clavulanate (AMC) on hyperglycemia in female rats with alloxan-induced diabetes. Involving 25 rats divided into five groups, the research found that the combination of AMC and metformin significantly reduced glucose levels compared to the diabetic control group, suggesting AMC enhances metformin's glucose-depletion effect. While sodium levels decreased significantly, there were no significant changes in triglycerides, total cholesterol, or electrolytes like chloride and potassium. The study highlights the potential benefits of this co-administration in managing hyperglycemia without affecting lipid profiles or electrolyte balance, though it notes limitations such as a small sample size and short duration.
