Atheromatous plaques, also known as atherosclerotic plaques, are accumulations of fatty deposits, cholesterol, cellular waste products, calcium, and fibrin in the inner lining of arteries. These plaques can restrict blood flow or rupture, leading to serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks or strokes.
