itchy, red swellings on skin from cold exposure
Chilblains, also known as pernio or perniosis, are small, itchy, red or purple swellings on the skin that occur as a reaction to cold temperatures. They typically affect the fingers, toes, ears, and nose, and result from inflammation of small blood vessels in response to repeated exposure to cold but non-freezing air. This condition can cause pain, blistering, and in severe cases, ulceration.
