microscopic mites living in hair follicles and sebaceous glands
Demodex spp. refers to a group of microscopic mites that live in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands of mammals, including humans. These mites are generally harmless and part of the normal skin flora, but in some cases, they can proliferate excessively and contribute to skin conditions such as rosacea or demodicosis.
