    GlossaryFranz diffusion cells

laboratory devices measuring substance diffusion through barriers

Franz diffusion cells are laboratory devices used to study the rate at which substances, such as drugs or cosmetic ingredients, pass through a barrier, typically skin or a synthetic membrane. They consist of two chambers separated by the barrier: one chamber holds the test substance, while the other contains a fluid that collects the diffused substance, allowing researchers to measure how quickly and effectively the substance penetrates the barrier.
