Fusidic Acid is an antibiotic primarily used to treat bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Staphylococcus aureus. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth and spread of the bacteria. Commonly available under the brand name Fucidin, it is often used in topical creams and ointments for skin infections, but can also be administered orally or intravenously for more severe infections.
