system of alternative medicine using highly diluted substances
Homeopathy, also known as homoeopathy, is a system of alternative medicine based on the principle of "like cures like," where substances that cause symptoms in a healthy person are used in very diluted forms to treat similar symptoms in a sick person. Developed in the late 18th century by Samuel Hahnemann, homeopathic remedies are prepared through a process of serial dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking), with the belief that this enhances the remedy's healing properties. While widely used, homeopathy remains controversial and is often criticized by the scientific community due to a lack of empirical evidence supporting its efficacy.
