drugs that relieve pain by binding to brain receptors

Opioids are a class of drugs that include both natural and synthetic substances derived from the opium poppy plant, as well as synthetic analogs. They are primarily used for pain relief but can also produce euphoria, which makes them prone to misuse and addiction. Common examples include morphine, heroin, and prescription painkillers like oxycodone and hydrocodone. Opioids work by binding to specific receptors in the brain and nervous system to reduce the perception of pain.
