October 2025 in “Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology” The study developed a multifunctional bilayer wound dressing co-loaded with nanosilver and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) to enhance skin regeneration. The dressing, created using emulsion electrospinning and vacuum freeze-drying methods, features an upper hydrophobic layer and a lower hydrophilic layer, allowing sustained release of nanosilver and bFGF for over 2 weeks. It demonstrated effective water management, bacterial prevention, and promotion of angiogenesis and coagulation. In vitro and in vivo tests showed accelerated fibroblast migration, cell proliferation, and vessel formation, significantly improving wound healing rates. By day 3, the healing rate with the bilayer dressing was 35.28% compared to 23.99% in the control group, indicating a 47% improvement. This dressing shows promise for skin repair and regeneration.
