February 2025 in “Buletin Veteriner Udayana” This study investigated the effects of mimosine from lamtoro leaf powder on the pancreas of 18 male Wistar rats. The rats were divided into three groups: a negative control, a group given pure mimosine, and a group given mimosine from lamtoro leaf powder. After 14 days of treatment, histopathological analysis revealed that mimosine from lamtoro leaf powder caused milder necrosis in the pancreas compared to pure mimosine. The presence of flavonoids, tannins, and proteins in the lamtoro leaf powder likely reduced mimosine's toxicity. It is recommended to limit lamtoro leaf feeding to livestock or treat the leaves to mitigate toxic effects.
