The study assessed the quality of commercial synthetic braiding hair in Kisii Town, Kenya, by analyzing the presence of Formaldehyde and Ammonium Thioglycolate (ATG) allergens. Six samples from two beauty shops were tested using UV-Vis Spectroscopy and qualitative methods. Results showed no traces of ATG in the samples, but confirmed contamination with formaldehyde, with concentrations ranging from 40 to 90 ppm. The alpha brand had lower formaldehyde levels, indicating better quality. The study highlights public health concerns due to formaldehyde exposure in synthetic braiding hair.
