Ultrasound, also known as ultrasonography or sonography, is a medical imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within the body. It is commonly used to monitor fetal development during pregnancy, diagnose conditions in organs such as the liver, heart, and kidneys, and guide procedures like needle biopsies. The sound waves are emitted by a transducer, which also captures the echoes that bounce back, creating real-time visual representations on a monitor.
