TLDR COVID-19 can cause hair loss a few months after infection.
SARS-CoV-2 infection was associated with hair loss, specifically telogen effluvium (TE), which typically manifested as diffuse thinning 1 to 3 months after infection. Trichoscopy often revealed empty hair follicles, thin terminal hairs, and 1-hair follicular units. The proposed mechanisms for this hair loss included the stress of the disease, the release of proinflammatory cytokines, or direct viral damage to hair follicles.
