4-Aminopyridine Induces Nerve Growth Factor to Improve Skin Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration

    TLDR 4-Aminopyridine improves skin wound healing and tissue regeneration by increasing cell growth and promoting nerve repair.
    The study conducted on 5 mice per group found that 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) significantly enhances skin wound healing and tissue regeneration. The treatment led to faster wound closure, increased keratinocyte number, and epithelial stem-cell markers in healing wounds. It also increased fibroblast and myofibroblast numbers and levels of transforming growth factor-β. Additionally, 4-AP promoted division reinnervation, increased the number of Schwann cells, and enhanced the expression of markers of an early SC differentiation state. The study also found that 4-AP enhances the expression of transcription factors, neurotrophic factors, and neuropeptides associated with reinnervation. In vitro, 4-AP also accelerated keratinocyte wound closure.
