TLDR 5ARI treatment improves hair growth in older men with minimal side effects.
Several retrospective studies have examined the effectiveness of 5α-reductase inhibitors (5ARI) in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in men aged 50 years or older. The studies found that 5ARI treatment with finasteride or dutasteride resulted in significant improvement in hair growth, with minimal side effects. Dutasteride showed slightly better results than finasteride, but sexual side effects may occur with the use of finasteride. Overall, the studies suggest that 5ARI treatment can be effective for hair growth in older men with AGA, but potential side effects should be considered.
