612 Wnt signaling induces fibrotic fat loss via DPP4 in skin fibrosis

    The study investigated the role of Wnt signaling in skin fibrosis, specifically focusing on its impact on dermal white adipose tissue (DWAT) lipid depletion. Using a genetic mouse model, researchers found that sustained Wnt signaling led to lipid breakdown in DWAT via dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4), contributing to extracellular matrix (ECM) expansion and dermal fibrosis. Genetic ablation or chemical inhibition of DPP4 preserved DWAT, reduced lipid breakdown, and diminished ECM remodeling, suggesting that DPP4 inhibitors could be a potential treatment for dermal fibrosis by targeting lipid depletion.
