TLDR Acne is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects quality of life and needs better treatment strategies.
Acne vulgaris was identified as a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the pilosebaceous unit, rather than a natural life cycle occurrence. Key mechanisms included increased sebum production, hormonal dysregulation, and immune dysfunction. Acne grading lacked consensus, complicating treatment trials. Prevention focused on managing risk factors, but treatment guidelines were limited by insufficient data. Complex regimens led to poor adherence, affecting treatment success. Acne often resulted in scarring and reduced quality of life. Future treatments aimed to target early acne development processes to improve patient outcomes.
