TLDR Continuous glucose monitoring and GLP-1 receptor agonists improve diabetes management, but personalized care and education are crucial.
The 47th meeting of the Irish Endocrine Society presented numerous advancements in diabetes and endocrine disorder management. Key findings included the effectiveness of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in improving glycemic control and quality of life for Type 1 Diabetes patients, with a study showing 62.5% user satisfaction with the DEXCOMⓇ CGM device. The meeting also highlighted the potential of GLP-1 receptor agonists in reducing HbA1C and weight in diabetes patients, though they may cause hypoglycemia. Additionally, the importance of multidisciplinary care was emphasized, particularly in managing diabetic foot disease and reducing amputation rates. The meeting underscored the need for personalized management strategies, improved insulin prescribing practices, and enhanced patient education, especially regarding the use of diabetes technology and glucagon kits.
