TLDR Acupuncture reduces anxiety and depression in women with PCOS.
This systematic review and meta-analysis, involving 12 randomized controlled trials with 2,127 participants, found that acupuncture significantly reduces anxiety and depression in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Acupuncture also improved testosterone levels, BMI, and waist-hip ratio without significant adverse effects. The study suggests acupuncture may modulate androgen levels and neuroendocrine pathways, contributing to its benefits. However, limitations such as sample size, methodological heterogeneity, and inadequate adverse event reporting indicate a need for higher-quality trials to confirm these findings.
