TLDR Onions from Gilgit grow larger and heavier than those from Hunza.
The study on the allometric growth dynamics of onions (Allium cepa) in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, revealed significant differences in growth between the districts of Hunza and Gilgit. Onions from Gilgit exhibited greater growth, with mean leaf length, width, and area of 25.05 cm, 0.59 cm, and 10.1 cm², respectively, compared to Hunza's 14.88 cm, 0.43 cm, and 9.0 cm². The growth rate of leaf length in Gilgit was 97.64% faster than its width, while in Hunza, it was 97.1% faster. Bulbs from Gilgit were also larger and heavier, with an average weight of 16.25g, compared to 9.62g in Hunza, indicating a 59.2% faster growth rate. Overall, the study highlighted that onions from Gilgit had superior growth characteristics compared to those from Hunza.
