    Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease characterized by premature transition of hair growth from the anagen phase to the catagen, telogen, and exogen phases, leading to hair loss. This review discusses the physiology of hair, the pathophysiology of alopecia areata, and evaluates the potential of herbal remedies as an alternative to allopathic treatments for managing the condition.
