Androgenic-anabolic steroids (AAS), synthetic derivatives of testosterone, are widely misused beyond sports for muscle growth, posing a significant public health issue. The misuse of AAS is linked to severe physiological, psychological, and social consequences, including sudden cardiac death, particularly among athletes. This study emphasizes the need for healthcare professionals to identify at-risk individuals and stay informed about the adverse effects of AAS. It also highlights the importance of conducting AAS analyses in forensic autopsies, especially in suspicious athlete deaths, to better understand and address the public health impact of AAS use disorder.
