TLDR Early diagnosis and a combination of treatments can effectively manage hair loss and improve quality of life.
Alopecia androgenética (AAG) is a prevalent form of hair loss caused by the miniaturization of hair follicles due to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It affects both genders and significantly impacts quality of life. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, with treatments including topical minoxidil and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors like finasteride and dutasteride. Women may also use antiandrogens and hormonal contraceptives. Emerging therapies such as microneedling and platelet-rich plasma are promising, alongside aesthetic procedures like hair transplantation. The study highlights the importance of early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach to manage the psychosocial effects and improve patient outcomes.
