TLDR 5% topical Minoxidil is the best treatment for female hair loss, improving hair density and thickness.
This integrative literature review evaluates the efficacy and safety of Minoxidil in treating female androgenetic alopecia, confirming that 5% topical Minoxidil is the first-line treatment, significantly enhancing hair density and thickness while reducing hair loss. Low-dose oral Minoxidil is effective for those with low adherence to topical treatments, though it requires careful consideration due to potential systemic side effects. Combined therapies, such as microneedling and spironolactone, show superior results in some cases. The review emphasizes the need for individualized treatment plans and calls for larger-scale randomized clinical trials to address limitations like methodological heterogeneity and sample size variability.
