TLDR Many first-trimester pregnant women in Mysore have anemia and iron deficiency, needing better care and interventions.
This study of 491 first-trimester pregnant women in Mysore, India, found a 26.1% prevalence of anemia, with 61.4% experiencing iron deficiency. Mild anemia was most common at 21.8%, while moderate and severe cases were less frequent. Anemia was significantly associated with factors like residence, education, and BMI, but not with age, occupation, or marital status. Symptoms included tiredness (29.7%) and hair loss (22.7%). The study underscores the need for targeted interventions, such as early detection and dietary counseling, to improve maternal and fetal health. The research was supported by local medical organizations, with no conflicts of interest reported.
